Hoot

It has been over two months since my last post.

We will not speak of it.

In the meantime, Ella has been busy planning her birthday party. She has been in love with the Harry Potter books for months. Since the summer, we have been patiently working our way through all 7. This has been accomplished through a combination of Madison reading aloud, me reading aloud, and Ella reading to herself. Let me tell you, it takes some time to read a 600+ page book aloud. The sweet part is that Madison began reading HP1 aloud to Ella in a effort to get her "hooked" on reading. Many books later, it has worked. She is now eagerly reading chapter books on her own. Ella had her heart set on a Harry Potter themed party. "Great" I thought, "invitations will be easy. We can just roll them up to look like scrolls of parchment." I presented this plan to Ella, who said, "Yes! And then we can tie them to an owl!" I must admit, I moaned and groaned, but had the mommy sense to do so inside my head. Because Ella is a girl who knows what she wants. I dig that about her. So instead of wasting time fighting it, here's what we came up with.

I copied an idea from a blog, and Ella picked out the papers.

Our flock. Are a group of owls called a flock? I think they should be called a "wise of owls" . Did you know a group of house cats is called a clutter? A group of leopards a leap? A group of tigers an ambush? No? Read American Girl magazine!
** update**
A group of owls is called a parliament, as per my Dad!

You are a crack up. No, I did not know that interesting fact about groups of leopards and tigers, but yes, I believe a group of owls is indeed called a flock. But don't quote me on that.
ps...the flock of owl invitations are darling!
